Cordially invites you to a presentation and slide show
Afghanistan Beyond Kabul
with
The Honourable Flora MacDonald
Date: Wednesday January 15, 2002
Time: 12 to 2 PM
Place: CCIC Board Room, Third Floor, 1 Nicholas Street Ottawa
The Honourable Flora McDonald, a long time advocate for Afghan people’s rights, visited Afghanistan in March 2001 when Taliban regime was in control. She returned to the country again in May 2002, prior to the Grand Loya Jirga.
At this session she will compare the difference in the conditions between the two periods. She will also describe the needs of 75% of the Afghan population who live in rural areas. Almost no attention has been paid by the international community to the situation of Afghans who live outside of Kabul. She will do so by showing slides illustrating the deplorable conditions of rural Afghans.
Hon. Flora MacDonald served as a Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands (1972-1988), holding three cabinet positions, External Affairs, Employment and Immigration and Communications. She is the current Vice Chairperson of Partnership Africa Canada.
